Not only will we feature leading nature photographers, but also conservationists, scientists, and filmmakers. These experts will share their knowledge and experiences through inspiring talks. From world-renowned figures to emerging voices, each speaker will bring a unique perspective.

Alex Galán

Territory

Documentary filmmaker Alex Galán premiered his film Territory at the Moscow International Film Festival, competing for the prestigious Golden Saint George Award. Shot in Kyrgyzstan, the film explores the lives of local shepherds and their relationship with the snow leopard, reflecting Galán’s signature style of connecting with audiences through real and moving stories. After its premiere at the Atlántida festival in Mallorca, Territory will have its first screening on the peninsula during the MontPhoto screening. In addition, it will be the first non-Soviet film to be screened at the St. Petersburg film festival.

rturo Rodríguez is an internationally renowned Spanish photographer and journalist whose career has been marked by his dedication to documentary photography and photojournalism. Born in the Canary Islands, he began his career working for the EFE Agency and later for Reuters and The Associated Press, where he served as official photographer in the Canary Islands and then as deputy editor in Madrid for Spain and Portugal. His work has led him to cover highly relevant events, such as the cholera epidemic in Haiti in 2010, the conflicts in Kosovo and Palestine, and the Sahrawi refugee camps in Africa.

Michiel van Noppen and David Hup are documentary photographers who focus on the relationship between man and nature. Van Noppen connects the academic world with the field, while Hup investigates our interaction with ecosystems. Their work seeks to raise awareness about conservation and has been published in international media, receiving awards for its impact on nature photography.

Invisible Killers

Hector Cordero, a Spanish biologist, conservation photographer and birding guide, began his career documenting the beauty of species but soon adopted a conservationist approach in recognition of the threats they face. In recent years, he has focused his work in New York, documenting the effects of glass and light on bird migration, as well as the restoration of sensitive areas and the protection of endangered species. Additionally, he serves on the jury for international nature photography competitions and has published a notable book on the birds of New York.

Jaime Rojo is a Spanish photographer and conservationist based in Mexico City. Since 2004, he has worked on protecting wilderness areas and is known for his collaborations with The WILD Foundation and WWF. His work with the monarch butterfly and his efforts to document and preserve the Neovolcanic Axis in Mexico are particularly noteworthy.

Kristel Schneider is a passionate photographer known for capturing the beauty of the natural world with deep sensitivity. Her work creates emotional connections between the viewer and nature, exploring familiar themes with an intuitive approach that highlights its inherent rhythm and brilliance.

Women Revisiting Religion

Maria Contreras Coll is a documentary photographer and visual storyteller. She is a National Geographic Explorer, winner of the National Culture Prize of Catalonia, and collaborates with international media such as The New York Times or Bloomberg. Since 2017, her interest has been to document how women are revisiting religion and spirituality, eliminating patriarchal practices in countries such as Nepal, the United States or Austria. Currently, she is working on a National Geographic Society Meridian project on trees in the Mediterranean and working on her first fiction film with the support of the Catalan government.

Marta Bretó is a photographer and mountain guide specialising in nature and wildlife. She has a degree in Physical and Sports Activities in the Natural Environment, a degree in Photography and Digital Creation and a postgraduate degree in Advanced Audiovisual Postproduction. She is a teacher and guide of photographic trips at INDOMITUS. She is the author of three books and ten documentary films on trekking and adventure, filmed in remote areas of Iceland, Alaska, Lapland and Pakistan. Her photographs have been published in magazines such as “Lonely Planet”, “Viajes National Geographic”, “Terre Sauvage”, “Vèrtex” and “Descobrir Catalunya”.

Pau de la Calle is a freelance photographer based in Barcelona. He works on current affairs news and long-term documentary projects. He is interested in human stories, such as social conflicts, migration movements and the growing global climate crisis.

Sergio Pitamitz is a professional photographer and journalist with dual French and Italian nationality. A contributor to National Geographic, he specializes in nature, wildlife, and conservation. He has traveled to all seven continents, from the Americas to Australia, from the Arctic to Antarctica, and from Africa to Asia and the Middle East. His images and stories have appeared in hundreds of publications, including National Geographic Magazine, BBC Wildlife, Terre Sauvage, Geo, The New York Times, Time, Newsweek, and Le Figaro Magazine.

Mediterranean Monk Seal: The Mystery of the Mediterranean

Ugo Mellone is a biologist and freelance photographer specializing in conservation and biodiversity. Some of his work has been funded by the National Geographic Society and MontPhoto, published in prestigious magazines, and has received awards in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year. He has developed long-term projects in the Mediterranean, the Sahara, and Patagonia. His photos aim to tell stories that reveal the natural history and conservation challenges of the subjects. Together with Marco Colombo and Bruno D’Amicis, he formed the collective “The Wild Line” to explore the most remote corners of the Mediterranean. At MontPhoto, he will present one of their first results: a report on the Mediterranean monk seal, both enormous and invisible at the same time.

Albert Masó, biologist, PhD in Ecology and Evolution, photographer specialising in safaris and representative of AUSTRALphoto, together with Adrià Grau, architect and director of Rift Valley Expeditions in Spain, will present an emotional portrait of Toni Espadas. Through their experience in travel and photography, both speakers will share memories and project images of Toni’s adventures in Africa, highlighting his legacy as a photographer, guide and passionate explorer of the African continent.

Javier Camacho is a photographer and mountaineer specializing in capturing the beauty of natural landscapes and extreme heights. He has undertaken numerous expeditions to iconic mountain ranges, from the imposing Himalayas and the challenging Karakorum to the majestic Andes and the Arctic regions. He has explored over 50 countries, ascending four of the seven highest peaks on the continents and completing five expeditions to mountains over 8,000 meters without artificial oxygen or support from high-altitude Sherpas.

Zimbabwe, between myth and conservation

Quim Dasquens, a photographer with over 40 years of experience, and Dani Serralta, an expert Africanist and wildlife advocate, will combine their knowledge to take you on a unique photographic expedition in Zimbabwe. Together, they will guide you through safaris and conservation projects for rhinos, elephants and lions. In addition, you will explore the mysticism of Great Zimbabwe and the majesty of Victoria Falls. Quim, with his artistic and narrative approach, and Dani, with his deep commitment to the preservation of African wildlife, will immerse you in an unforgettable experience of learning and adventure.
