Eloïsa Matheu will bring us the sounds of nature at the MontPhoto Festival 2024

Between presentations at the MontPhoto 2024 Festival, we have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in a unique auditory experience with the Eloïsa Matheu Sound Exhibition. This exhibition invites us to discover the natural world from a completely different perspective: through sound.

Nature is vibration and communication. Animals and plants interact with their environment and with each other through an acoustic spectrum that ranges from the lowest frequencies, such as the deep sounds of whales and elephants, to the high-pitched and fast ultrasounds emitted by bats and insects. Eloïsa Matheu will take us to explore these soundscapes, which not only reveal the diversity and acoustic richness of different ecosystems, but also connect us emotionally with nature.

By listening carefully to these soundscapes, we will be able to discover the life around us from a more respectful and humble perspective, moving away from the traditional vision of domination over nature. The exhibition includes sound stories accompanied by spectrograms and short texts that will guide us on this fascinating acoustic journey.

Who is Eloïsa Matheu?

Eloïsa Matheu is a bioacoustician with an extensive career dedicated to the recording and study of natural sounds. Since her beginnings in the 1980s, she has worked on the capture of soundscapes in diverse habitats, focusing on biodiversity and the acoustic behavior of fauna. Her passion for the sounds of nature has led her to travel around the world, from the depths of the jungles to the most remote wetlands and mountains. Eloïsa has collaborated with numerous scientific, educational, and cultural institutions, creating sound archives that are used in research, conservation, and outreach. She has been part of projects ranging from the creation of sound guides for the identification of birds and amphibians, to the incorporation of soundscapes in exhibitions and museums, as a tool to raise public awareness about the richness and fragility of ecosystems. In addition to her field work, Eloïsa teaches workshops and lectures, where she shares her knowledge about the importance of the soundscape in the conservation of biodiversity. Her recordings not only document life in different habitats, but also seek to awaken in people a deeper awareness of the need to preserve nature. Through her work, Eloïsa invites us to listen to and understand the natural world in a way that goes beyond the visual, offering a more intimate and respectful connection with the environment that surrounds us.
